Fort Drum

The Fort Drum U.S. military reservation is made up of about 107,265 acres and is part of the Jefferson County, New York. It is populated with about 12,123 according to the year 2000 statistics and is the base to the 10th Mountain Division. Its aim is to direct active basic units assigned to the establishment, supply administrative and logistical assistance to occupant units, provide all sorts of aid in training at Fort Drum to active and reserve units, and planning and support for the movement and exercises of nearly 80,000 troops yearly. Since the year 1908, Fort Drum has been utilized as a military training area although the presence of the military force in the northern part of the country is already traced way back early 1800s. Several units are already founded in the area and the Black River and Indian River that flows near the portion of the reservation borderline are utilized for the training of the rangers.
