Located approximately 219 km (136 miles) north from the New York City and somewhat south of the junction of Hudson River and Mohawk is Albany. It is the capital of the New York State and has an approximate population of 94,200 according to the year 2007 census. Albany City has a major port, where the river of Hudson was excavated to allow the ships coming and going to the ocean rich the area. This city has a close bond with the surrounding cities including Saratoga Spring, Schenectady, and Troy where it forms a region known as the Capital District which is one of the historic places in America. The city of Albany is the oldest remains of the European community from the initial 13 Colonies and a lot of names were given to this area by native tribes. Today, the city's economy is greatly dependent to the state government and is greatly viewed as a leader of nanotechnology. Several festivals are also celebrated annually including the Lark Fest, Latin Fest, Tulip Festival, and African American Family Day Arts Festival. A lot of school and recreational areas are also available within the city.
