Beacon is a city found in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The area population was 16,000 residents and as of the latest Millennium Statistical Studies the city had a complete population of 13,808 residents. Beacon is a part of the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, New York Municipal Statistical Area the same thing with biggest New York-Newark –Bridgeport, New York-NJ-CT-PA Mixed Statistical Area. Beacon was entitled in tribute to the historic beacon fires the way from the summit of the Fishkill Mountains to awaken the Continental Army due to British troop activities. It is found in the southwest branch of Dutchess County, in the speedy growing Mid-Hudson Region. It lies 59 miles north of New York City, and as of the estimated distance it is found 90 miles south of Albany. The city was mainly colonized as the village of Matteawan and Fishkill Landing in 1709, which is between the first communities in the State. It was established as a city in 1913, combining with the two villages’ and also the little area of the small village of Glenham from the town of Fishkill. Beacon was determined different roles during the Revolutionary War. It produces war supplies, and became as a camp and signaling point. Its name is belongs from the signal fires that are next to Beacon Mountain. In 1880s the city become a manufacturing town and was called as “The Hat Making Capital of the US” with around 50 hat manufacturing centers that operate in the same time. The rebirth of the urban forced a demolition of many symbolic historic buildings during 1960s. At the following year the Dutchess Ski area, that once the biggest tourist destination was ended.
