Cheektowaga is a municipality (additionally a Census-Designated Place) in Erie District, New York. The municipality has 94,019 citizens. The namesake of the municipality is from the Iroquoian term Ji-ik-do-wa-gah, signifying the location of the crab apple tree. Cheektowaga has a big Polish-American neighborhood; almost 39.9% of community is of Polish tradition. The Town of Cheektowaga is situated on the north-innermost area of the district. It is one of the biggest outskirts of Buffalo, New York following Amherst. Cheektowaga CDP, also known as Cheektowaga Municipality, is the location of the Buffalo Niagara Intercontinental Airfield, the major airfield of Erie District. The Walden Villa as well as the Walden Galleria is situated in Cheektowaga. Cheektowaga, or "Land of the Crabapples", got its name because of the apple-like crop of the Hawthorn seedlings profusely developing in the vicinity.
