East Greenbush

Because of the many pinewoods that initially spread throughout the area, the community of East Greenbush was named after the Dutch term "Green Bosch”. The town is a part of the Rensselaer County, New York that is populated with about 15,560 residents according to the year 2000 statistics. Its population is made up of various races including Caucasian, African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic or Latino. It is situated in the western end of the county that is bordered by the North Greenbush Town to its north, Schodack Town to its south, Rensselaer City to its west, and San Lake Town to its eastern side. The original inhabitants of the region, which is now known as East Greenbush, had settled before the year 1631 according to history accounts and said to be composed of occupants that were under Patroon Kiliaen Rensselaer. The highway of Interstate 90 crosses through East Greenbush and is consist of US 4 US 9 and US 20 on the west end. The town is measured to have a total area of 24.4 square miles where 24.1 square miles is composed of land and the remaining 0.2 square miles is composed of water. The River of Hudson partially outlines the west part of the town with the Albany County, New York the other side of the shore. The community of East Greenbush has many schools and it is mostly being served by the East Greenbush Central School District. A small part of the area particularly on the eastern portion is also being served by the Averill Park Central School District.
