Evans Mills

One of the villages in the county of Jefferson, New York that is situated in the northern part of the New York State is the Village of Evans Mills. It is populated of about 605 residents according to the year 2000 statistics. The village is part of the Town of Le Ray and was established in the year 1802. However, the mills in this area were not constructed until the year 1806. During the mid 19th century, the neighborhood was shortly called "Evansville." But when it was organized as a village in 1874, it was called Evans Mills. Back then, its inhabitants were only 500 people. The village is bordered by the Black River at the south, and the confluence of West and Pleasant creeks to its north. The power that is generated by the Black River is important for the Watertown's economy because it provides energy for the paper mills that is situated in the area. During the winter season, large amount of snow falls and during summers it manages to have a moderate temperature.
