One of the towns in Orange County, New York that is populated with 12,913 residents according to the year 2000 statistics is the Town of Goshen. This community is situated at the center of the county. It is comprised of a village that is also called Goshen, the capital area of the Orange County. The Village of Goshen is 50 miles northwest of the City of New York where the New York State Route 17 highway runs through the center of the county. The town was first inhabited in the year 1714 although the proposal for occupying was created in the year 1654. The Town of Goshen was founded in the year 1789 however in 1830; a portion of the town was utilized to organize the new Hamptonburgh Town. After several years, another portion of the town was utilized to organize the Town of Chester. Base on the census, the town measures a total area of 44.0 square miles; made up of 43.8 square miles of land area and the remaining 0.1 square miles is water. The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, is located in Goshen. It also accommodates the highest event of harness racing which is called the Hambletonian and held at the previous Good Time Park through the years 1930 to 1956. At present, racing is still held at a National Historic Landmark which is called the Historic Track located at the midst of its village.
