Grand Island is an island, a municipality in the county of Erie, New York, USA. As of the Millennium Statistical Studies the area population was about 18,621. The name Grand Island is formerly called “La Grande Ile” which came from the French name. The Island is the largest island located in Niagara River. The name “La Grande Ile” is can be seen in the Town seal. The municipality is can be found at the northwestern branch of the county. The area is northwest in Buffalo, state of New York. The expressway 190 and the State Route 324 of New York are extended over the island. During the 16th century of the ancient period of Grand Island the Pilgrim of French discovers the settlers in the area which is the Neutral Indians. In 1651 the Seneca ruined the tribe and captured many survivors and later became the Seneca’s island for fishing and hunting. In 1764 following the year of French and Indian War the island belong to the part of the British community in North America. New York State bought the Grand Island in 1815 and many tiny islands found in Niagara River come from the nation of Iroquois with only $1000 cash on hand, and every year and forever the $500 is being paid every June of the year.
