Hamburg is the second biggest city in Germany and being the sixth biggest city in the European Union. The city had an estimated population of 1.8 million residents, and 4.3 million residents for the Hamburg Municipal Region and among other neighborhoods which is the Federal States of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. The seaport of Hamburg is the second biggest seaport in Europe following the Rotterdam and being the ninth biggest in the world. The real name of Hamburg is the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. It creates reference to Hamburg’s History as a part of the medieval Hanseatic League as a free royal city of the Holy Roman Empire and the truth is Hamburg is a city-state and belongs to the sixteenth Federal States of Germany. Hamburg is the main transportation center in northern Germany and later being the media and industrial with manufacturing plants of Blohm Voss and Norddeutsche Affinerie. The media industry in Hamburg is exceptional with 120,000 complete enterprises. The area is the main tourist destination for both domestic and overseas with 7.4 million visitors in 2007. Hamburg got its name from the ancient building on the area which is the first castle command by Emperor Charlemagne to be constructed in 808 AD. The castle’s ground is made of rocks in the swamp of River Alster and the River Elbe to be protected from the Slavic irruption. The Castle is called Hammaburg which is the term “burg” defined as Castle and the “Hamma” term is interminable. |
