Located at the southern portion of Tonawanda Town, outlining Buffalo City, New York that is situated to its south is the village of Kenmore. It is part of the Erie County, New York that has an estimated population of 16,500 according to the year 2000 census. Kenmore Village is also a portion of the Buffalo Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistics Area. In the year 1800, Joseph Ellicott who is one of the original occupants in this area was delegated to be the resident land representative by the Holland Land Company for the whole area. Later, Ellicott started to sell the lands to people who settle in the area. In April of 1836, the New York State Legislature established the Tonawanda Town officially and after several years (1899) the village of Kenmore were also organized as part of the Tonawanda Town. The village of Kenmore made a great improvement. Today, the community offers a lot of cultural offerings. They provide safety and fine rated education to their residents while retaining their old neighborhood charm. The village is also near to the Erie Lake where a lot of recreational activities are being offered. They also have parks, library, zoo and museum; and celebrate many festivals during the summers. |
