Kirkwood

Kirkwood is an urban zone in Broome Division, New York. The estimated community was 5,651 in population. Kirkwood was named after James P. Kirkwood, the engineer who built the community rail line. The town of Kirkwood is within the south-innermost area of the district, southeast of Binghamton, New York. In roughly 1781, Jonathan Fitch assembled a gristmill here, befitting the first original inhabitant. The town of Kirkwood was fashioned after the Town of Conklin. In 2006, sectors of the municipality were destroyed when the Susquehanna River flooded its seaboards. The south urban route is the state track of Pennsylvania (Susquehanna County). The Susquehanna River outlines the western edge, where the US Thoroughfare 11 as well as Freeway 81 passes over the municipality, directly after the route of the Susquehanna. New York State Course 17 passes beyond the north area of the municipality.
