The Village of Maybrook is situated mainly in the Montgomery Town, although a little part of it is also within the Hamptonburgh Town. It is part of the Orange County, New York that is populated with about 3,084 residents according to the year 2000 statistics. Base on the U.S. Census Bureau, the Village of Maybrook has an over all area measurement of 1.3 square miles and all of it is composed of land. The village’s land area is mainly flat, but its western portion is somewhat hilly. The peak of its highest area is about 520 feet above sea level and the lowest area of the village is a marshy, underdeveloped portion that is located in the northeast corner of the community. This small town stayed to be an unincorporated area until 1926. It was the last hamlet from among the three of Montgomery Town to be organized. The improvement of the Village of Maybrook is due to the construction of railroads. It was in the year 1910 when the biggest rail center was constructed at the East. It operated until 1974, having a 1,500 employee at the time of its peak. At present, the railroads no longer exist however, because of the village’s nearness to Interstate 84, the New York State Thruway and Stewart International Airport it still continues to be the transportation and distribution area of the region. The Village of Maybrook has become a famous local stop for a lot of years for some known foods like the Pat's Pizza, Four Star Video, and Lu-Jon's Ice Cream. The Yellow Freight Company is the largest establishment operating at the core of the village. |
