Mechanicville City is a part of the County of Saratoga, New York that is populated with 5,019 people according to the year 2000 statistics. The population of this city is compose of White, African American, Native American, Asian, and Hispanics. The name of this city is taken from the professions of the original settlers. Mechanicville City is situated on the eastern boundary of the County of Saragota and north of the New York’s capital which is Albany. The city outlines the towns of Halfmoon and Stillwater within the county, and Schaghticoke Town which is part of the County of Rensselaer. In 1764, the original European occupants settled in Tenendeho Creek which is now known as Mechanicville. The name of the city was taken from the job of the first occupants which are millers, carpenters, and butchers. During that time, their occupations were generally called the "mechanical arts". Base on the census, the city is measured to have a total area of 0.9 square miles where 0.8 square miles is compose of land and the remaining 0.1 square miles is compose of water. There are schools located in the area and one of it is the Mechanicville High School. |
