Menands

Menands is a village in the district of Albany, state of New York, United States. The area population was about 3,910 as of the Millennium Statistical studies. This small community is called after Louis Menand. Menand is beside the town of Colonie and bounded to the north of Albany City. Louis Menand lives in the area in 1842 and develops important agricultural businesses. He leased a parcel that currently recognized as the Home for Aged Men. He purchased a 11 acres land in 1847 in where the Albany- Watervliet Turnpike which is currently called Broadway that crosses the road through Ireland’ Corner that is presently called Loudonville and the road that crosses to the Ireland’s Corner is now called Menand Road. In 1856 during the establishment of Albany and Northern Railroad it develops a terminal in the Menands and called “Menand’s Crossing” because Menands at that time was the only owner of the land. “Menands Station” was created during the merging of Albany and Northern Railroad to the Delaware and Hudson. In the ancient 1920s there are surrounded gossips about the city of Albany that are planning to captured the area and it has happened during the election on August 23, 1924 that was established with 167 votes and 47 oppose to vote, and the population of the new community during that time was only 1,272 residents. The area bounded to the new village is the 15th School District of Colonie Town. The main border is excluded which is the Sky Hollow, Sage Hill Route, as well as Roost Nation Estates. These areas is lately became part of the North Colonie Main School District. Menand's theme is “Urban-Suburban Village” and it legal seal is being part of the village’s 50th annual celebration in 1974.
