One of the most dense city in the United States and is the nation's biggest city since 1790 is the City of New York. It is well known global city that executes a strong influence with the whole world's commerce, culture, fashion, finance and entertainment. To identify it from the New York State, it is always referred to as New York City. It is situated on the broad natural haven of Atlantic coast on the northeastern portion of the United States. This city contains five communities which are The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. According to the 2007 census, the city has an approximate population of more than 8.2 million people and has a total land area of 305 square miles. This city was established by the Dutch in the year 1624 initially as a commercial trading post. The community was first called New Amsterdam up till 1664. A lot of neighboring areas and landmarks within the city have become notable worldwide. Some of these are the Statue of Liberty, the Wall Street located in Lower Manhattan, the empire State Building and the tower of the previous World Trade Center. New York City is consisting of various races and at times referred as "The City that Never Sleeps", Big Apple and Gotham.
