Saranac Lake is a hamlet or a village found in New York, United States. As of the Millennium Statistical Studies the area population was 5,041. The area is named after the closest lakes of Upper, Middle and Lower Saranac Lakes. Saranac Lake surrounded the three towns which is Harrietstown, St. Armand, and North Elba, and even the two counties such as Franklin and Essex. The village border doesn’t cross the three Saranac Lakes; Lower Saranac Lakes are located in the west side of the village with half a mile distance. The northern area is reaching Lake Flower that belongs to the Saranac River beside along the village. The area of Saranac is a complete discrete area, 33 miles in the northeast. The village along the bounded areas of Adirondack Park is 7 miles away from Lake Placid. These villages within the Tupper Lake consist of Tri-Lakes region. Saranac Lake was recognized as the best hamlet in New York State and being awarded as the 11th in the United States “The 100 Best Small Towns in America”. In 1998 one of the leagues in the U.S. called the Saranac Lake an All-America City and last 3 years the hamlet was called as a part of the “Dozen Distinctive Destinations”. The area had 186 buildings that marked on the National Register of Historic Places. Saranac Lake was established in 1819 by Jacob Smith Moody, which came from Keene, New Hampshire. In 1827, the colonizer Pliny Miller and Alric Bushnell develop logging materials with a barrier and sawmill. |
