The Village of Suffern is part of the Ramapo Town which is found at the County of Rockland, New York. It is situated at the northern part of the New Jersey State, east of Hillburn, at the western part of Airmont, and south part of Montebello. According to the 2000 statistics, the Village of Suffern is populated with about 11,006 residents. This community is among the many urbanized neighborhood in the County of Rockland. Established in the year 1796 by John Suffern who also became the first judge in the County of Rockland, the village was named after him. Suffern dwell close to the foot of the Ramapo Mountains in the year 1773. Initially, the area was called New Antrim which was derived from the birthplace of Suffern in Ireland. The area of New Antrim is said to be strategically essential during the time of the American Revolution War because it is close to the Ramapo Pass. Base on the census, the community is measured to have a total area of 2.1 square miles where 2.1 square miles is compose of land and the remaining 0.04 square miles is compose of water. The village is served by the Suffern Station, a local and express train which is managed by New Jersey Transit and Transport of Rockland which operates buses to serve the County of Rockland. The Suffern Railroad Museum, Brooklands Park - Lake Road, and the Washington Ave. Monument are some of the historical markers and interesting places that are found in the area.
