One of the villages in the County of Erie, New York that has an estimated population of 5,600 according to the year 2000 statistics is the Williamsville Village. It is situated mainly inside the town of Amherst; however the two communities which are the Creek Road and Creek Heights that are at the southern portion of the village are located in the Cheektowaga Town. The area was named after an early occupant named Jonas Williams. The village has a waterfall known as Glen Falls that can supply water power which draw the attention of many millers. The original mill was constructed by Jonas Williams in the year 1811 which is why the village was initially known as "Williams Mills". Up to now, this mill can still be found along the side of Glen Park and is now named as the Williamsville Water Mill. The village was organized in the year 1850. Several landmarks today can be found in the area reminding the people of its history. Festivals are also celebrated every summer like the Old Home Days to remember the traditions of the past. The city is also being served by the Williamsville School District which caters the eastern portion of Amherst and a little area of the western end of Clarence. |
